Biography
Michelle Pfeiffer is an American actress and producer who began with minor television and film roles in the late 1970s. Born in Santa Ana, California, she took her first starring part in Grease 2 (1982) and broke through as Elvira Hancock in Scarface (1983). She went on to star in The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Married to the Mob (1988), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), which earned her a BAFTA Award and an Academy Award nomination, and The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), which brought a Golden Globe and a second Oscar nomination. A third Oscar nomination came for Love Field (1992), and she played Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992). Later credits include What Lies Beneath (2000), Hairspray (2007), Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), her first turn as Janet van Dyne. Her work in the HBO drama The Wizard of Lies (2017) earned an Emmy nomination.

Pfeiffer remembered that her first agents wanted her to change her surname, since they believed audiences would find it too hard to spell or pronounce, but she refused.
