Plot summary
In November 1963, Lurene Hallett keeps close track of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy; having lost a child herself, she feels a kinship with her. Learning that the President and his wife will fly into Dallas, Lurene drives to Love Field to catch a glimpse of them and comes away without shaking Jackie's hand. Word of the assassination reaches her soon after. Her grief fixes on one plan, to be present at the burial in Washington, and her husband, Ray, forbids the trip. Lurene leaves him a note and boards a bus east. On the road she meets Jonell, Paul Cater's young daughter.

- Denzel Washington was attached to play Paul Cater in Love Field but dropped out. Eriq La Salle took over and filmed for days before producers replaced him with Dennis Haysbert, saying La Salle looked too young opposite Michelle Pfeiffer.
- Love Field was finished in 1990 but sat unreleased for about two years because Orion Pictures suffered crippling financial losses and filed for bankruptcy. It only opened in December 1992, in time for Oscar consideration.
- The character of Lurene Hallett in Love Field, the Dallas housewife, was based on the mother of the film's screenwriter, Don Roos.
