Plot summary
Sam Harper, a trader in New York, may have broken federal law, and his boss presses him to pay off the officials investigating him. His girlfriend Hannah tells him his estranged father, Jerry, has died, and they fly to Los Angeles, where Sam reunites with his mother, Lillian. Jerry's lawyer and friend Ike gives Sam no inheritance, only a shaving kit holding $150,000 and a note naming Josh Davis as the one to receive the money. Sam seeks out the boy and finds his mother, Frankie, a bartender in recovery and Jerry's daughter by another woman.
