Plot summary
In the early 1960s Bernard Madoff founded the Wall Street company that over time became one of the largest investment funds. Known as a financier, broker and financial consultant, he was also a generous philanthropist, and his wife Ruth and his sons Mark and Andrew all worked at the firm. In 2008 it emerged that, for the previous sixteen years, the firm had been running the largest Ponzi scheme in history. That same year, at the start of the Great Recession, numerous clients came to the firm to withdraw their money. Madoff did not have the money to give them, and he realized his fraud would be exposed.
