Biography

Jeff Goldblum is an American actor and musician who made his film debut in Death Wish (1974) and had early roles in California Split (1974) and Nashville (1975). He gained wider attention for Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), The Big Chill (1983) and The Fly (1986). He is best known as Ian Malcolm in the Jurassic Park franchise, David Levinson in the Independence Day films, and the Grandmaster in Marvel films including Thor: Ragnarok (2017), and he played the Wizard of Oz in Wicked (2024) and Wicked: For Good (2025). He appeared in Wes Anderson films including The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). His independent credits include Deep Cover and Igby Goes Down (2002). He was nominated for an Academy Award for the short Little Surprises (1996), earned an Emmy nomination for Will & Grace, hosted The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and released jazz albums with the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.

    Goldblum taught acting at Playhouse West in North Hollywood with Robert Carnegie, and he improvised and directed the short Little Surprises with actors from that company, which earned an Academy Award nomination in 1996.

    Goldblum's jazz band, the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, released its debut album The Capitol Studios Sessions in 2018 after he was signed by Decca Records.
