Plot summary
In New York City on New Year's Eve, several interconnected people cross paths over the day. Claire Morgan oversees the Times Square ball drop, the city's annual tradition. Ingrid Withers, a record company secretary, quits her job after a near miss with a car and asks Paul Doyle, a deliveryman, to help her finish her New Year's resolutions before midnight. Paul's sister Kim is a recently divorced mother whose teenage daughter Hailey would rather spend the night in Times Square. Chef Laura is cooking the Ahern Records party, where her former fiancé Daniel Jensen is set to sing. In a hospital, Claire's father Stan, gravely ill, wants only to watch the ball drop. Expectant parents Griffin and Tess Byrne and another couple, James and Grace Schwab, are competing over a bonus for the first New Year's Day baby.
