Kate Nelligan
Biography
Kate Nelligan is a Canadian actress, born in London, Ontario, who built a long career on stage and screen. She began her professional stage work in 1972 with the Bristol Old Vic and later appeared regularly in the British series The Onedin Line. Her early films included The Romantic Englishwoman (1975) and The Count of Monte-Cristo (1975), and in 1981 she starred opposite Donald Sutherland in Eye of the Needle. She earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for The Prince of Tides (1991) and won a BAFTA for Frankie and Johnny (1991). On Broadway she received four Tony Award nominations between 1983 and 1989. Her other screen work includes the 1979 film Dracula and the CBS television film Captive Heart: The James Mink Story, and she won two Gemini Awards in 1993.
