Colm Meaney
Biography
Colm Meaney is an Irish actor who trained at the Abbey Theatre School in Dublin and joined the National Theatre of Ireland company in 1971, staying nine years. His first television appearance came in 1978 on Z-Cars, and he became widely known as Chief Petty Officer Miles O'Brien on Star Trek: The Next Generation and then Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, appearing in 225 episodes of the franchise. His film work includes all three adaptations of Roddy Doyle's Barrytown Trilogy, Con Air (1997), Layer Cake (2004), The Damned United (2009) and Get Him to the Greek (2010). He earned a Golden Globe nomination for The Snapper and won a Silver Hugo at the 1993 Chicago International Film Festival, and he has twice won Irish Film & Television Academy awards, for How Harry Became a Tree and The Journey. On television he also played Thomas C. Durant on Hell on Wheels.

In the 1987 pilot of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Meaney played an unnamed helm officer. As the character gained prominence as Transporter Chief, he was given the name Miles O'Brien.
