Plot summary
In Mystery, Alaska, the entire town turns out each Saturday for a hockey game played on an open pond. A Sports Illustrated article reports that the local team's skating rivals any in the NHL, and the league suggests bringing the New York Rangers to town for a televised exhibition. Mayor Scott Pitcher drops Sheriff John Biebe from the Saturday Game to make room for teenager Stevie Weeks. Because Judge Walter Burns has refused to coach, Pitcher asks John to take the job, and John says he does not know how. Connor Banks, the team's best player, argues with a representative scouting the town for the Price World chain, fires a shot to frighten him, and the bullet ricochets into the man's foot.
