Plot summary
Twenty-year-old Sharon Curley lives in a Dublin house with her parents, her brothers and sisters, and one bathroom she often occupies. Soon after a night at the pub she finds she is expecting a baby, and she keeps the man's name to herself. That refusal sets off a family drama involving her parents, her brothers and sisters, her employers and her friends. Neighbors trade theories about the father; some tease Sharon, others make remarks to her brothers and sisters. Dessie, her father, is caught between outrage at the embarrassment to the family and concern as her time comes nearer. Sharon has decided to keep the child.
