Plot summary
In Ballymun, north Dublin, two brothers, Tito and Ossie, share a tower block flat with their father, Papa Reilly, once King of the Irish Travellers. Their grandfather is an old storytelling Traveller who fills their heads with folk tales and legends. One day a white horse, Tír na nÓg, comes out of the sea and follows the family to the city, and the boys dream of becoming cowboys. Corrupt Gardaí take the animal and sell it as a showjumper. Spotting the horse on television, the brothers set out to get it back, leaving their estate behind. Papa Reilly is arrested and beaten; Kathleen shelters him, and the two of them ride after the boys.
