Plot summary
General Martok brings a Klingon armada to Deep Space Nine and tells Captain Benjamin Sisko it is there to protect the Federation from the Dominion, an empire led by shape-shifting Changelings. Klingon soldiers spread through the station, and Garak, a Cardassian tailor and former spy, is beaten. A Klingon ship detains a freighter to search it for Changelings, and Sisko takes the Defiant out to make the Klingon commander back off, though ships are still stopped just beyond the station's jurisdiction. Sisko calls for Worf, the only Klingon serving in Starfleet, who is considering whether to resign his commission, to find out what the Klingon fleet is doing at Deep Space Nine.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- This episode revealed a bald new look for Benjamin Sisko: Avery Brooks, who had shaved his head and worn a goatee as Hawk on Spenser for Hire, was contractually barred from shaving his head on Deep Space Nine until season 4 and this episode.
- Michael Dorn joined Deep Space Nine as Worf, whom he had played for seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Glad to be done with the time-consuming Klingon makeup, he surprised himself by saying yes when producer Rick Berman asked him to return.
