Plot summary
In 1974, during the Troubles, four IRA members bomb a Belfast pub, killing six people, three of them children. Doireann, her brother Curtis, Conan and Séamus drive to Glencolmcille, a coastal town in County Donegal, to lie low. Curtis stays with Sinéad, his widowed sister-in-law who keeps the local pub, and her young daughter Moya, while the others sleep in a shack. Finbar Murphy came home from the Second World War to find his wife dead and drank himself into a depression. The local crime boss, Robert McQue, pulled him out of it and put his combat experience to use as a contract killer. Finbar now poses as a book-seller and is friendly with the Garda officer, Vinnie, and his neighbor Rita.
