Wallace Shawn
Biography
Wallace Shawn is an American actor, playwright and writer who started out in the theater, collaborating with the director Andre Gregory from 1970 onward. He first appeared on screen in 1979, in Woody Allen's Manhattan and Bob Fosse's All That Jazz. He played Mr. Hall in Clueless (1995) and Vizzini in The Princess Bride (1987); he also voices Rex in the Toy Story films and played Dr. John Sturgis on Young Sheldon. He wrote and starred with Gregory in My Dinner with Andre (1981) and appeared in Vanya on 42nd Street (1994). His other films include The Haunted Mansion (2003), The Incredibles (2004), The Double (2014) and Marriage Story (2019). On television he had recurring roles on Taxi, The Cosby Show, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Gossip Girl and Evil. His plays include the Obie-winning Aunt Dan and Lemon, and in 2005 he received the PEN Laura Pels award as a Master American Dramatist.
