- After finishing the film, Allen was so unhappy with it that he asked United Artists not to release it and offered to make a film for no fee instead. He later said he thought that at this point in his life, if this was the best he could do, they shouldn't give him money to make movies.
- The bridge's two sets of necklace lights ran on a city timer and went off at sunrise, so Willis arranged with the city to keep them on until the shot was in the can. One string went out mid-take anyway, and Allen was forced to use that take.
- The character Tracy was based on Stacey Nelkin, who dated Allen when she was 17 to 19 and has confirmed Tracy is based on her. Christina "Babi" Engelhardt later claimed the film was partially based on her own unconfirmed relationship with Allen, but called herself "a fragment".
