Plot summary
A magical box of animal crackers is the secret behind the incredible acts at Buffalo Bob's circus. When Bob's brother Horatio P. Huntington threatens to take over the rundown circus, Owen, his wife Zoe, and their daughter Mackenzie are given the box by the circus pets. At home, Owen eats one of the crackers and immediately becomes a hamster. The family hurries back to the circus to understand what has happened. The clown Chesterfield explains that each cracker transforms the eater into the animal it represents, and only one human cracker can reverse the change. Owen must decide whether to use the crackers to help the circus and stop his uncle.

- Animal Crackers struggled to find a North American distributor: after The Weinstein Company picked it up in 2013, Relativity Media was prevented from releasing it by a financial crisis, and upstart Serafini Releasing shut down before it could release the film either.
- Kaley Cuoco was originally cast as Zoe Huntington alongside John Krasinski's Owen, but Emily Blunt replaced her in March 2015 because of a scheduling conflict.
- Writer-director Scott Christian Sava said he wrote Animal Crackers with specific actors' voices in his head: Horatio was always Ian McKellen and Brock was always Patrick Warburton.
- The animation was created in Autodesk Maya and rendered with Arnold. To save money, the film was produced at Blue Dream Studios Spain, a 5,000-square foot house in Valencia that director Scott Christian Sava founded in 2014, with more than 120 animators.
- The film's 2023 DVD and Blu-ray releases from Allied Vaughn were not approved by director Scott Christian Sava, and are presumed to be licensed through investor Mayday Productions or another unknown outside entity.
