Plot summary
In Portland, Oregon, 11-year-old Timmy Failure runs the agency Total Failures with his imaginary partner, Total, a 1,200-pound polar bear only he can see. Rollo Tookus, his friend, left the agency after one of its missions failed. Molly Moskins, a classmate, has a crush on Timmy, while Corrina Corrina, whom he treats as a rival, is friendly to him. While Timmy is picking up a classmate's dead hamster, someone steals the Failure-Mobile, the Segway that belongs to his mother, Patty. He sets his other cases aside and brings Rollo back to help find it, and Rollo believes the missing Segway and the hamster's death point to the Russians. Timmy begins meetings with Mr. Jenkins, the school counselor, and learns that his mother is dating Crispin, a meter maid he dislikes.
