Plot summary
Clare Lipkin, a widowed former television sitcom star, has invited her neighbor Lisabeth to stay while fumigation work is done on Lisabeth's house. Lisabeth's brother Peter arrives with his bride To-Bel, and Lisabeth's ex-husband Howard turns up asking to be taken back. Clare, who is bulimic and haunted by the ghost of her late husband Sidney, is planning a comeback and consults Mo, a Beverly Hills weight loss doctor. Clare's house attendant Juan owes $5,000 to June-Bug, a gangster who slashes his cheek as a warning. Juan appeals to Lisabeth's chauffeur Frank, who proposes a wager: Frank will seduce Clare before Juan beds Lisabeth, paying $5,000 if Juan wins and taking a night with Juan if he loses. Juan accepts.
