Plot summary
Bob Parr and his wife Helen are Metroville's celebrated crime fighters, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, until lawsuits over the damage they cause turn the public against superheroes. The government's relocation program bans them from using their powers and hides them in the suburbs, where they raise Violet, Dash and baby Jack-Jack. Fifteen years on, Bob works as a claims adjuster under a demeaning supervisor and slips out at night with his friend Lucius Best to help people anyway, while Helen has worked hard to build a normal life for the family and has no patience for his longing after heroics. When a woman named Mirage offers Bob a job subduing a robot on a distant island, he takes it, keeping the assignment from Helen.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Incredibles (2004)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Syndrome was first written as a minor villain who attacks Bob and Helen and tries to kidnap baby Violet at the start of the film, dying when an explosion destroys the Parrs' house; the filmmakers made him the main antagonist because they liked him more than Xerek, who was written for that role.
- Jack Black was offered the voice of Syndrome but turned it down, thinking the character "one-dimensional"; the article notes he later came to regret the decision.
- Writer-director Brad Bird wanted baby Jack-Jack to turn into a kind of goo in one of five planned transformations near the end of the film. Technical directors petitioned producer John Walker, and after two months of invective-laced arguments, Bird dropped the effect.
- Lily Tomlin was considered for the superhero costume designer Edna Mode but turned the part down, feeling director Brad Bird should voice her himself; after several failed casting attempts, Bird took on the role.
- Violet's long hair, integral to her character, was so hard to animate that it was only successfully animated toward the end of production; animators took six months fixing and tweaking it and it still didn't look right.
- The producers of 2005's live-action Fantastic Four were forced to make significant script changes and add more special effects because of its similarities to The Incredibles.
- To give Dash a realistic out-of-breath voice in scenes such as the jungle scene, director Brad Bird made Spencer Fox run four laps around the Pixar studio until he got tired.
