Plot summary
Rob Salinger works as a tabloid television reporter. His wife Micki is a lawyer and a candidate for a judgeship, and she is reluctant to have children, partly because of an earlier miscarriage and partly because of her career. Rob, though, badly wants a baby. Sent to interview the young cellist Maude Guillory, he becomes involved with her. Maude gets pregnant, and the pair plan to marry; her father, the professional wrestler Barkhas Guillory, helps arrange the wedding. Rob means to tell Micki and divorce her, but she speaks first, announcing that she is expecting and that she now wants a family with him, and that she must avoid stress or exertion. Rob marries Maude anyway, and his boss Leo Brody covers for him while he moves between his two wives.

- A month of shooting remained on Micki & Maude when director Blake Edwards fell ill with mononucleosis; Lou Antonio was brought in to complete the film and credited as an executive producer. It still came in $1.6 million under budget.
- Screenwriter Jonathan Reynolds said his original script was a zippy New York farce, but director Blake Edwards made it "much sweeter", slowed the pace and gave Maude Guillory Salinger a wrestler father, a part filled by professional wrestler Hard Boiled Haggerty.
- Micki & Maude was Ann Reinking's last acting role in a film, apart from later appearances as herself, such as in the 2005 documentary Mad Hot Ballroom.
- Playwright Jonathan Reynolds said the biggest trick in writing the film was making the bigamist Rob Salinger not be a swine, so he stressed the character's devotion to children and his love for both wives.
