Richard Harris
Biography
Richard Harris was an Irish actor and singer born in Limerick who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and spent his early years on British stages. He broke through in This Sporting Life (1963), playing a coal miner who became a rugby league player, winning the Cannes Film Festival best actor prize and an Academy Award nomination. He received a second Oscar nomination for The Field (1990). He played King Arthur in Camelot (1967), earning a Golden Globe, and later reprised the role on Broadway. His screen work spanned The Guns of Navarone (1961), Red Desert (1964), A Man Called Horse (1970), Unforgiven (1992), and Gladiator (2000). He played Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), his final film. He recorded the hit song MacArthur Park and earned an Emmy nomination for The Snow Goose.
