Plot summary
At the International Health Organization in Geneva, an outbreak of plague is revealed, and three terrorists attempt to bomb the US mission. Two are shot; the third, Eklund, escapes and hides on a train from Geneva to Stockholm. Dr. Elena Stradner wants the train stopped, but Colonel Stephen Mackenzie fears those on the train are already infected and orders it rerouted onto a disused line leading to a camp at Janov, Poland, where they are to be held in quarantine. The route runs over the Kasundruv Bridge, called the Cassandra Crossing, out of service since 1948. On board are neurologist Jonathan Chamberlain, his ex-wife Jennifer Rispoli Chamberlain, Holocaust survivor Herman Kaplan, and Nicole Dressler, married to a German arms dealer, traveling with her companion Robby Navarro, a heroin trafficker trailed by Interpol agent Haley, posing as a priest.
