Malachy McCourt
Biography
Malachy McCourt was an American-Irish actor and writer who was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Limerick. His screen work included The Molly Maguires (1970), The Brink's Job (1978), Q (1982) and Ash Wednesday (2002), and he was a familiar face on New York daytime serials such as Another World and One Life to Live. He also had a brief part on the HBO prison drama Oz. In the 1970s he presented a talk show on WMCA, and he later hosted a Sunday morning call-in forum on WBAI, where he was still a guest in 2023. He released a spoken word album in 1970, performed at Scranton Public Theatre, and co-wrote the stage piece A Couple of Blaguards. Three memoirs followed, among them A Monk Swimming.
