Jack Watson

Biography

Jack Watson was an English actor whose British film and television work began in the 1950s. Born in Thorney, Cambridgeshire, he often performed on stage with his father, a music hall comedian, as his straight man. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Navy as a physical training instructor, and his impressive bearing was clear in his later screen roles. He also worked as the resident compère of The Navy Mixture, a BBC radio comedy. He later became a regular on BBC radio shows including The Clitheroe Kid, Hancock's Half Hour and Take it from Here, and moved into television, playing Bill Gregory in Coronation Street on and off between 1961 and 1984. He was probably best known as Llud in Arthur of the Britons, and his films included This Sporting Life (1963), Grand Prix (1966), Tobruk (1967), The Devil's Brigade (1968), The McKenzie Break (1970) and The Wild Geese (1978).
