Biography

Emma Watson is an English actress who studied acting, dancing and singing at a Stagecoach theater school in Oxford before landing her first professional role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series. She made her screen debut in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) and played Hermione through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011). She won a Young Artist Award for the first film and a National Movie Award for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Her first major role away from the franchise was in the BBC film Ballet Shoes (2007), and she voiced Princess Pea in The Tale of Despereaux (2008). She then had a supporting part in My Week with Marilyn (2011) and played Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). Later she played Belle in Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Meg March in Little Women (2019).

  1. A role that slipped away

    In March 2013, reports linked Watson to the title role in Kenneth Branagh's live-action Disney Cinderella. She was offered the part but declined it since she felt no connection to the character, and Lily James ultimately took the role.

    Watson studied acting, dancing and singing at Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theater school with an Oxford branch. By the time she was ten, she had appeared in Stagecoach productions.
