Plot summary
An alien ship crashes on a desert planet, and the predators native to it kill the survivors. The ship's core, Vecanoi, lives on and sprouts Axis, a massive plant that grows up into space. Six hundred years later, human-like tree-dwellers live in its branches, and Axis is withering: the sap that feeds them is drying up, and their prayers to the gods bring no answer. Kaena, a teenager among them, is curious about the world outside her village, and prophetic dreams push her toward a place with a blue sun and water in abundance. The village elder calls her inquisitiveness heresy and tells his people to keep toiling for their gods. Compelled by a force she cannot explain, Kaena defies the beliefs her people have held for generations.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Kaena: The Prophecy (2003)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Kaena began as a video game: Chris Delaporte started it in 1995 after leaving Éric Chahi's company Amazing Studio halfway through development of its only game, Heart of Darkness, before the project spun off into a multimedia one.
- The crew did not build its own animation software for the film, instead using already existing tools such as Alienbrain and the 2.5 version of 3ds Max for rendering.
