Meryl Streep
Biography
Meryl Streep is an American actress who began her stage career in 1975 and earned a Tony Award nomination in 1976 for 27 Wagons Full of Cotton. She moved to film with a small part in Julia (1977), and The Deer Hunter (1978) brought her a first Academy Award nomination. Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. In the 1980s she won a Best Actress Oscar for Sophie's Choice (1982), appeared in Out of Africa (1985) and earned the Best Actress prize at Cannes for A Cry in the Dark (1988). The 1990s saw her in The Bridges of Madison County (1995), while the 2000s brought mainstream hits: she played an antagonist in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) and took a musical role in Mamma Mia! (2008). Doubt (2008) and The Iron Lady (2011) earned acclaim, the latter a third Academy Award. She holds the record for the most Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
