Before and After (1996) on Netflix

Plot summary

Dr. Carolyn Ryan and her husband Ben live in a small Western Massachusetts town with their son Jacob and daughter Judith. Sheriff Fran Conklin arrives with the news that Martha Taverner has been killed, and that witnesses placed Jacob with her shortly before she died. When the sheriff asks to speak with Jacob, the family finds his room empty. Fran asks to look at Jacob's car; Ben refuses and tells him to get a warrant. Once Fran has gone, Ben inspects the car himself and finds gloves and a car jack marked with blood. He burns the gloves and cleans the jack, then hides it among his art materials. Carolyn, learning what he has done, fears he has destroyed evidence that might have helped them find Jacob. The town turns against the family, assuming Jacob is a murderer.
