Plot summary

In 1950s Paris, Julia Child, wife of diplomat Paul Child, enrolls at Le Cordon Bleu to learn French cooking and finds herself the only woman in a class of male students. Madame Brassart, who runs the school, clashes with her. With Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, Julia begins work on a French cookbook for American housewives, a project that follows the couple through Paul's postings. In 2002, Julie Powell answers calls for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, fielding complaints about the rebuilding of the World Trade Center. Her kitchen is where she feels most in control. She decides to prepare all 524 recipes in Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking within a year and to write about the attempt in a blog, with her husband Eric's encouragement.
