Plot summary
Michael Banks lives in the London house where he grew up and is raising John, Annabel and Georgie a year after the death of his wife Kate. His sister Jane and the housekeeper Ellen help with the household. Michael works part-time as a teller at the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, where he is three months behind on a loan. Two associates of the bank's chairman, Wilkins, tell him the house will be taken unless the debt is repaid by Friday. Michael and Jane remember that their father had put shares in the bank, and they look through the house for the certificate. Georgie finds an old kite and takes it to the park, where Mary Poppins comes down from the sky holding it.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Julie Andrews, who played Poppins in the 1964 film, was approached about a cameo, possibly as the Balloon Lady before that part went to Angela Lansbury, but turned the offer down because she wanted it to be "Emily's show".
- The sequel arrived 54 years after the original, the longest interval between a live-action film and its sequel in cinematic history.
- Marshall asked for a hand-drawn animated sequence rather than modern CGI, feeling it was vital to protect the spirit of the original film, and over 70 artists specialising in hand-drawn 2D animation were recruited from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios and other studios.
- Just as in the original film, Van Dyke is credited under the scrambled name "Navckid Keyd", which unscrambles itself during the closing credits.
