Plot summary
Andrea "Andy" Sachs has spent two decades away from Runway and now works as a global journalist in New York, until her newsroom is dismissed by a text message at an awards ceremony. Miranda Priestly, Runway's editor, faces criticism for a favorable article about a fashion label tied to sweatshop labor. Irv Ravitz, Miranda's boss at Elias-Clarke, hires Andy as features editor without telling Miranda. Miranda struggles to navigate modern fashion media. Nigel Kipling explains that print readers have fallen away, pushing Runway toward online clickbait and cheap short-form content to keep advertisers. Emily Charlton, Andy's former Runway colleague, now at Dior, turns the controversy into free advertising and a Dior article that Miranda hands to Andy. Their interview becomes a debate about retail prices and middle-class shoppers.
