Each has been married before, and Mark is known for his womanizing; people warn Rachel about him. She becomes involved with him regardless, and after a brief courtship they plan to wed in a New York City apartment, though Rachel hesitates. Her sister, her editor, her father, her therapist and Mark's closest friends, along with Mark himself, all urge her to go through with the ceremony.
