Plot summary
Major Bennett Marco led a U.S. Army unit in the Persian Gulf War. Sergeant First Class Raymond Shaw received the Medal of Honor for leading the patrol's survivors out of the desert after an ambush in Kuwait. Shaw now sits in Congress, and his mother, Virginia Senator Eleanor Prentiss Shaw, has maneuvered his nomination for vice president past Senator Tom Jordan. Marco keeps having nightmares about the ambush, and Al Melvin, one of his former soldiers, comes to him with dreams of the same patrol being captured and tortured. Marco travels to New York City, where he meets Rosie, a supermarket clerk who already knows who he is, and accepts her offer of a place to stay. Manchurian Global, a private equity firm with political connections that include Senator Shaw, figures in his questions.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Tina Sinatra co-produced the 2004 remake, while her father Frank Sinatra, who played Marco in the 1962 original, held that film's legal distribution rights into the late 1980s and never re-released it, though it aired several times on network television.
- The remake kept the title but changed what "Manchurian" means: in the 1962 original the hero was brainwashed by the Chinese army in Manchuria, whereas in the 2004 version the Korean War became the Gulf War and Manchurian is the name of a sinister multinational company.
