A woman in a white trench coat wanders the theater, and Guy Noir, the show's security guard, follows her.

- The production could only be insured on one condition: Robert Altman had to hire Paul Thomas Anderson as a standby director who watched every day of filming and was ready to take over if Altman could not continue.
- Virginia Madsen later explained why the insurers balked: Altman was older and was going through chemotherapy during the shoot, which was a big secret at the time. She said it never affected his ability to work, and that Anderson was very much directing alongside him.
