Plot summary
Divorced for ten years, Jane Adler owns a bakery in Santa Barbara; Jake Adler is an attorney, remarried to Agness, the much younger woman he was involved with during his marriage to Jane. Their three children are grown, and the youngest has just left for college, so Jane lives alone. Agness stays home with her sick son Pedro, and Jane travels to New York City for Luke's graduation with Jake. Drinks and old memories lead the two to bed. Jane regrets it at once, but Jake pursues her back home, and they begin an affair. Jane is also drawn to Adam, the architect she has hired to remodel her house.

- As Martin was soon to embark on a concert tour to promote The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, his schedule required the team to complete shooting his scenes during the first two months of filming.
- In mid-April the crew spent a few days filming exteriors in Montecito and Santa Barbara, just days before wildfires took a heavy toll on the area.
- Several different locations stood in for the fictional Park Regent hotel: a residence building on Park Avenue and 59th Street for exterior shots, the JW Marriott Essex House for the lobby and Jane's hotel room, and a restaurant on Tenth Avenue for the hotel bar.
- Released on December 25, 2009, the film played well through the holidays and into January 2010, closing on April 1 with $112.7 million, and grossed $219.1 million worldwide, surpassing The Holiday (2006).
