Plot summary
Janine Roth, a television journalist, arrives at the office of Republican Senator Jasper Irving for an hour-long interview. Rather than the story she had planned, he hands her a new strategy for Afghanistan, sending small units to seize mountain positions ahead of the Taliban, and he wants her coverage to sell it. Roth works for a news organization now owned by corporate interests, and she worries she is being used to carry the government's message. In Afghanistan, two soldiers, Arian Finch and Ernest Rodriguez, university friends who enlisted after graduating, take part in that operation. Their former professor, Stephen Malley, meets a bright but disengaged student, Todd Hayes, and tells him about the two men.

- Robert Redford called Lions for Lambs the tightest schedule he had ever worked with. Filming began on January 29, 2007, with barely a year between the film's announcement and its release.
