Plot summary
While his parents travel to Puerto Vallarta, ten-year-old Lucas Nickle stays behind with his older sister Tiffany and his grandmother. He is new to the neighborhood and has no friends, and the bully Steve keeps coming after him. Unable to fight back, he takes it out on the anthill in the front yard. In the colony, the wizard ant Zoc wants to strike back at the boy, while Hova, a nurse ant, is curious about humans and would rather reach him. The exterminator Stan Beals persuades Lucas to sign a contract for his services. The colony's leaders choose Zoc's potion, which will shrink Lucas down to their size.

- Tom Hanks came up with the idea to adapt The Ant Bully after reading the children's book with his own child, then personally sent a copy to director John A. Davis because of Davis's earlier work on Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
- The film was rendered on DNA Productions' own 1400-CPU render farm running the open-source Sun Grid Engine scheduler, with AMD Opteron nodes that started on Fedora Core 2 Linux and were later upgraded to Fedora Core 4.
- The Ant Bully's disappointing box-office return of $55.2 million against a $45-50 million budget led animation studio DNA Productions to lay off staff and shut down entirely the same year it was released.
