Biography

Mark Strong is an English actor who has worked widely on stage and screen, often cast as antagonists in period dramas and franchise productions. Born in London in 1963 and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, he appeared in British television roles such as Terry Cox in Our Friends in the North (1996) and also played Mr. Knightley in the 1996 adaptation of Emma and Steve in Fever Pitch (1997). His films include Sunshine (2007), Stardust (2007), Sherlock Holmes (2009), Kick-Ass (2010), Robin Hood (2010), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011), Zero Dark Thirty (2012), The Imitation Game (2014), 1917 (2019), and Cruella (2021), plus Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) and Shazam! (2019). On stage he won a Laurence Olivier Award for A View from the Bridge and received Tony nominations for that play and for Oedipus. His awards also include a BAFTA TV Award, and he appeared in The Penguin (2024) and Dune: Prophecy.
