On a single afternoon on Hampstead Heath, seven sets of Londoners cross the park. Jamie and his wife Molly lie on the grass until Molly catches him staring at a young woman nearby. Iris and Eddie share a bench and fall into conversation, both widowed and both in the habit of sitting there. Anna, crying after an argument with her boyfriend Ludo, is approached by a stranger named Noel. Billy and his partner Brian disagree about fidelity and about adopting a child. Pete and Sara, amicably divorced and raising a daughter, meet on another bench. Louis, lately bereaved of his father, gives Esther tickets for a holiday in Barbados.
