Plot summary
In 1973, ex-convict Lars Nystrom takes the employees of a Stockholm bank hostage and demands that his old partner in crime be set free from prison. The situation escalates, and he begins to let down his guard as an uneasy bond develops between him and one of the female employees in the bank. Word of the hostage crisis spread around the world, and in 1974 Daniel Lang wrote about it in The New Yorker in an article titled "The Bank Drama." The hostages' response to their captors gave rise to the psychological phenomenon that came to be called Stockholm Syndrome.
