Plot summary
Sarah Hughes arrives as a history teacher at a north London school, where Paul Ashworth teaches English. The two clash from her first day, because Paul's classroom chants for Arsenal and she says the shouting distracts her students. Paul tells his friend Steve that the dislike is mutual, and Steve calls that a promising sign. Paul also coaches a school football team. After a rainy Parents Day, he gives Sarah a lift home, she invites him up, and the two begin a relationship.

The film's climax recreates a real match: Arsenal's final game of the 1988-89 season against title rivals Liverpool on 26 May 1989, when Michael Thomas scored in the last minute to give Arsenal the 2-0 win they needed to take the title.- The film shot around Arsenal Stadium in Highbury, but the terracing there had already been replaced, so the scenes of fans on the terraces were filmed at Fulham's Craven Cottage stadium instead.
