Plot summary
Larry Lipinsky, 22, is a Jewish man from Brownsville, Brooklyn, who dreams of stardom. In 1953 he moves out of his parents' home to Greenwich Village, over the objections of his overprotective mother. There he falls in with a circle of eccentric friends: Connie, Anita, Robert and Bernstein. The group becomes a new family to him as he chases acting work and waits for a break in Hollywood. He also tries to hold together his stormy relationship with his girlfriend Sarah.
