Plot summary
Tom Dobbs hosts a satirical news program that channels public frustration with divisive politics and special interests. An audience member suggests he run for president, and he laughs it off, but after four million emails of support arrive, he announces his campaign on the air. He qualifies in 13 states and joins a national debate against President Kellogg, the Democratic incumbent, and Senator Mills, the Republican. Dobbs begins to take the race more seriously, which worries Jack Menken, who manages him, and Eddie Langston, the show's producer. At Delacroy, the company supplying the election's voting machines, programmer Eleanor Green discovers the system does not work correctly and emails James Hemmings, the head of the company, who deletes her message.
