Fiddler's Journey to the Big Screen (2022) on Netflix

Plot summary

Fiddler on the Roof made the journey from the stage to the screen, and a documentary revisits that production. It draws on behind-the-scenes footage, storyboards and previously unseen stills, and on interviews with the people who worked on the film, among them its composer, its production designer and its lyricist, with actresses from its cast, and with a film critic. A narrator carries the account. At the center stands the film's director, who set out to rebuild a vanished Jewish world in Tsarist Russia and to turn a stage hit into a wide-screen epic. The documentary considers how the experience deepened him as an artist.
