Plot summary
Becky Fuller loses her job at a local New Jersey morning program, and her mother suggests she try a different career. IBS News, needing someone to run its failing national morning show, DayBreak, brings her to New York. Network executive Jerry Barnes takes her on as executive producer despite his low opinion of the program. On her first day Becky finds a show short of direction and money, where co-host Colleen Peck has outlasted a string of partners. Becky dismisses Paul McVee, the co-host whose behavior has offended the staff, and then invokes a contract clause to oblige Mike Pomeroy, a journalist who scorns morning television, to take the seat beside Colleen. She also begins seeing Adam Bennett, a producer at the same network.
