Plot summary
Jack Harrison and Gil Turner write for The Sensation, a supermarket tabloid run by Gil's father, Mac Turner. A homemade tape arrives at the office: two men flee in panic from a creature they call Frankenstein's monster, and a shot from the waist down shows the thing itself. Mac sends the pair to Transylvania to follow the lead, telling them that a second trip home with nothing ends their jobs. There they meet the mayor Lepescu, his wife Lupi and his manservant Radu, a butler named Fejos, and Madame Morovia, a Romani woman who orders that they be brought to her. Gil's questions about the monster draw ridicule from the hotel staff and patrons; Jack pursues Elizabeth Ellison, a tourist from New York City.

- New World Pictures got the film's financing from the Dow Chemical Company, a company rarely linked to filmmaking: Yugoslav law blocked Dow from repatriating dinars it had accumulated there, so it put the frozen funds into a film produced inside Yugoslavia.
- Director Rudy De Luca said in the DVD commentary that it was the tallest cast he had ever worked with: Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Jeffrey Jones, Geena Davis, Donald Gibb and Michael Richards all stood over six feet tall.
