Plot summary
Madame Morrible has branded Elphaba Thropp the Wicked Witch of the West, and she keeps fighting for the Animals from a forest hideout. Animals are leaving Oz, among them Dulcibear, her former caretaker; Elphaba asks them to stay and resist, but the Cowardly Lion holds her to blame for taking him from the cage he knew as a cub and for the Wizard's flying monkey spies. Her sister Nessarose has taken over their father's governorship of Munchkinland and forbids the Munchkins to leave without her approval, her servant Boq included. Glinda Upland serves as the Wizard's spokesperson and is engaged to Fiyero Tigelaar, Captain of the Gale Force; he searches for Elphaba, though Glinda insists she does not wish to be found. Elphaba returns to the Emerald City, where Glinda asks her to join the Wizard.

- Greg Wells, a producer on the soundtrack, had his home studio destroyed in the 2025 Palisades Fire, halting work on the film's music. He and Jeff Atmajian had been recording live instrumentals, with orchestral sessions planned for AIR Studios in May or June 2025.
- Director Jon M. Chu took inspiration from Steven Spielberg's 1991 film Hook for the large-scale sets and practical effects, which included nine million colorful tulips planted on location around the Munchkinland set and a yellow brick road paved with real mud.
- Boq's transformation into the Tin Man was a collaboration between production designer Nathan Crowley, costume designer Paul Tazewell and prosthetic makeup designer Mark Coulier; the eleven-piece set took four hours to apply to Ethan Slater's face and homaged Jack Haley in the 1939 Oz film.
- The song vocals were recorded live on set at the insistence of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, with production sound mixer Simon Hayes adapting the same recording techniques he had used on Les Misérables.
- Wicked: For Good received no Oscar nominations at the 98th Academy Awards despite being shortlisted in eight categories, while its predecessor Wicked took ten nominations and two wins, setting a record for the largest drop in nominations versus a predecessor.
- Many sets from the first film were reused: the life-sized train to the Emerald City doubled as Glinda's personal locomotive, and the Governor's Mansion in Munchkinland was built from elements of Shiz University's library and Madame Morrible's office.
- Director Jon M. Chu said the adaptation was split into two films because cutting songs or trimming characters felt like fatal compromises to the source material, giving the production a bigger canvas to tell the story with more depth and surprise.
- Post-production on the sequel began with director Jon M. Chu working remotely with editor Myron Kerstein via the newly released Apple Vision Pro; editing then paused for most of 2024 so Chu could finish the first film, resuming that November.
