Plot summary
Biosyn Genetics keeps a dinosaur preserve in the Dolomites and runs genomics research it says is for pharmacology, while de-extinct animals breed across the world. Claire Dearing, Zia Rodriguez, and Franklin Webb document illegal breeding sites and animal cruelty, and Owen Grady relocates stray dinosaurs. Claire and Owen raise fourteen-year-old Maisie Lockwood at a remote cabin in the Sierra Nevada, shielding her from groups that want her genetic makeup. Blue, the last Velociraptor Owen raised, arrives there with an asexually reproduced hatchling Maisie names Beta. Restless in seclusion, Maisie slips away, and mercenaries take her and Beta. Giant locusts are destroying American crops; Ellie Sattler notices that fields sown with Biosyn seed go uneaten, and takes a specimen to Alan Grant. Franklin Webb, who now works in the CIA's dangerous-species division, says the mercenaries are in Malta.

- Biosyn's locust lab was a real set: director Colin Trevorrow had planned to use special effects for the fire, but agreed to burn the set down at the suggestion of special-effects supervisor Paul Corbould, with eight or nine cameras filming it burn.
- Campbell Scott was cast as Biosyn CEO Dr. Lewis Dodgson in June 2020, taking over the role played by Cameron Thor in the original Jurassic Park, after Thor's imprisonment for sexual assault.

- Because Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard could not travel to Malta, they were filmed with stunt doubles and their faces added digitally in post-production; Valletta's streets were lidar-scanned so they could act against a blue screen of the city.
