Biography

Dwayne Johnson is an American actor and professional wrestler who first became famous in the World Wrestling Federation as the Rock. Born in Hayward, California, he played college football before signing with the WWF in 1996. He won 10 world championships and headlined WrestleMania six times. He moved into acting with The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Scorpion King (2002). He went on to star in family films such as The Game Plan (2007) and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017), and action films like San Andreas (2015) and Rampage (2018). He also played Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious series, starting with Fast Five (2011). He voiced Maui in Moana (2016) and Moana 2 (2024). He also starred in and produced the series Ballers and Young Rock. His dramatic performance in The Smashing Machine (2025) drew critical praise. Time named him one of the world's most influential people in 2016 and 2019.

  2. A role that slipped away

    Johnson was cast as Black Adam in September 2014, set to be the antagonist in Shazam!, a film about the superhero Billy Batson. The role was reworked, and he did not appear in the film.

    Johnson's 2000 Saturday Night Live hosting stint, which featured fellow wrestlers Triple H, Big Show, and Mick Foley, led to Hollywood studios offering him work.
