Plot summary
Memnon's warriors come out of the East before the time of the pyramids, bringing most of the local tribes under his rule; none of them dares to fight him because his sorcerer foresees every attack. Mathayus is an assassin and one of the last surviving Akkadians, together with his brother Jesup and their companion Rama. King Pheron, who leads the free tribes, hires the three of them to kill the sorcerer as a last effort to stop Memnon. The task falls to Mathayus, who sets out with Jesup and Rama toward Memnon's stronghold, Gomorrah, where the sorcerer is kept.

- The Scorpion King took the biggest April opening weekend on record at the time, beating The Matrix, and held that record for only a year until Anger Management passed it in 2003.

- Director Chuck Russell put looks ahead of history: modern touches such as bikini waxing were given to the characters for the sake of the image, loosely justified by ancient Egyptian hair-removal habits.
